Periodontal Disease

There are a variety of periodontal diseases. Both surgical and non-surgical periodontal procedures are there to treat gum disease. Periodontists are considered as experts in replacing missing teeth with dental implants
There are several different types of periodontal disease which are listed below: –

Gingivitis :-

It is an inflammatory condition of the gingival tissue, most commonly caused by bacterial infection. Clinically, the gingival tissues are characterized by swelling, redness, tenderness, a shiny surface, and bleeding upon gentle probing.
Causes: – Diabetes, smoking, aging, Disease, Stress, genetics, pregnancy, hormones, infections. Primary objective of treating gingivitis is to reduce inflammation which is achieved by removal of plaque and calculus by scaling and root planning, following oral hygiene protocols and regular tooth brushing.

Periodontitis: -

Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of periodontium and its advanced form is characterized by periodontal ligament loss and destruction of surrounding alveolar bone. Smoking, diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, poor oral hygiene, obesity can expose individuals to the advanced form of periodontal disease.

Types Of Periodontitis: -

1.Aggressive Periodontitis.
2.Chronic Periodontitis.
3.Periodontitis as a Manifestation of Systemic Disease.
4.Necrotizing Periodontal Diseases.
5.Gingival Recession.

Non-Surgical Treatment:-

Scaling and Root Planning:-

In scaling and root planning, your dentist will perform a deep cleaning of your tooth root surfaces. First, your dentist will scale beneath the gum line to remove plaque and other bacterial toxins from periodontal pockets. Root planning allows your dentist to smooth the tooth root to prevent future plaque or toxins from adhering.

Laser Treatment : -

Lasers can be used to treat periodontal disease. Each laser has different wavelengths and power levels that can be used safely during different periodontal procedures.

Surgical Procedures: -

Gum Graft Surgery:-

Exposed tooth roots are the result of gum recession. Gum graft surgery will cover the exposed root and help prevent additional recession and bone loss.

Regenerative Procedures:-

Our Dentist recommend you a regenerative procedure when the bone supporting your teeth has been destroyed due to periodontal disease. These procedures can reverse some of the damage by regenerating lost bone and tissue.
During this procedure, your periodontist folds back the gum tissue and remove the disease-causing bacteria. Membranes (filters), bone grafts or tissue-stimulating proteins can be used to encourage your body’s natural ability to regenerate bone and tissue.

Dental Crown Lengthening :-

Some individuals may have a “gummy” smile which is aesthetically unpleasant to enhance your smile your periodontist performs a dental crown lengthening procedure.
Our Dentist also recommend dental crown lengthening to make a restorative or cosmetic dental procedure possible.

Periodontal Pocket Procedures:-

Your bone and gum tissue should fit snugly around your teeth like a turtleneck around your neck. When you have periodontal disease, this supporting tissue and bone is destroyed, which forms “pockets” around the teeth.
Over time, these pockets become deeper, providing a large space for bacteria to accumulate and advance under the gum tissue. These pockets can result in bone and tissue loss. Eventually, if too much bone is lost, the teeth will need to be extracted.
